SYHA Uniform Survey Update

The SYHA Board of Directors would like to thank everyone who responded to the recent community survey regarding the assessment of fees for new uniforms.  A total of 157 responses were received, with nearly 60% of respondents having a player entering the Squirt or PeeWee division next season.  Our community members were also very thoughtful and constructive with their comments and suggestions - THANK YOU!

As a reminder, respondents were asked to ‘vote’ on the following approaches to acquire new uniforms:

  1. Replenish CURRENT uniforms (same design) through an increase in travel player fees.  SYHA should continue to own jerseys/socks for distribution and collection each season (as it is done today).
  2. Purchase NEW uniforms (new design) through an increase of SYHA travel player fees.  SYHA should continue to own jerseys/socks for distribution and collection each season (as it is done today).
  3. Purchase NEW uniforms (new design) through independent family purchase.  Families own and keep jerseys and socks which would be purchased as needed through the SYHA website.

WE HEARD YOU!  The survey concluded the following:

The SYHA community would like new uniforms, however, our focus should be on upgrading uniform quality - not on changing our overall image.  As we look for newly designed and upgraded quality jerseys, our logo and team colors should remain the same.  Additionally, results conclude that the majority of respondents (62%) would prefer that SYHA continue to own and distribute uniforms, as it is done today.   As a result, we will not pursue independent family purchase of SYHA uniforms at this time.

As we move forward, valuable suggestions to further control costs will also be considered and explored - for example, phased purchasing by using current inventory in the 2017-18 season for certain divisions (i.e., Midget).   Additionally, we will explore ways to improve our uniform distribution process to ensure proper sizing of player jerseys each season.

At the February 7th Board meeting, our Board voted to further explore the purchase of new uniforms for SYHA for the 2017-18 season.  Under the leadership of Mary Kay Curtiss, Equipment Director, a committee will further evaluate pricing, design, and player fee impacts to refine and deliver a final recommendation for Board approval in the Spring.

We are committed to developing a recommendation that meets the needs of our program while keeping our annual costs down.  We appreciate your feedback on this topic and look forward to keeping our community informed with our progress.

Thank you again,

SYHA Board of Directors
